I saw a twin pulse jet-powered bike at a drag race this summer actually, it sounded AMAZING when they finally managed to do a clean run (it was very windy so the engines kept dying)! Recordings don't quite do it justice since it's so incredibly bass-intensive.
As for the run, there was no timer (it was at a meet called Hot Rod Reunion and the drag race was purely for fun) since it was just an old airfield runway but damn that thing took off!
